Publication Scheme

As a public body the UK Donation Ethics Committee is subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI).

The UKDEC has therefore adopted a publication scheme, in accordance with the requirements of FOI and guidance from the Information Commissioner. UKDEC is committed to making information available to the public as part of its normal business activities. This publication scheme sets out the classes of information available on this website, and where they can be found.

Who we are and what we do

Information about the UKDEC, its membership and terms of reference can be found on the other pages of Committee website.

What we spend and how we spend it

This will be available in the Annual Report, due to be published in the spring of each year.

What our priorities are and how are we doing

The work programme page gives information on current areas of work. The Annual Report summarises progress made during the year.

How we make decisions and our policies and procedures

Agendas and summaries of minutes are available on the meetings page. Minutes are normally approved at the subsequent meeting, so for example, the minutes of the April meeting would be published after the July meeting.

Lists and Registers

A register of members’ interests is available on the members section.

The services we offer

UKDEC welcomes comments, questions and information from anyone with an interest in organ donation. The main focus of UKDEC’s work is the development of guidance, information and recommendations for stakeholders in transplantation. This might include clinicians, policy makers, and the public.

Publications will be made available in the publications section of the website. Published material will not generally include:

  • Information where the disclosure of which is prevented by law, or exempted under FOI, or is otherwise properly considered to be protected from disclosure
  • Information in draft form
  • Information that is no longer readily available as it is contained in files that have been placed in archive storage, or is difficult to access for similar reasons.

Written Requests Information held by UKDEC which is not published under this scheme can be requested in writing, when its provision will be considered in accordance with the provisions of FOI. Requests for information from UKDEC should be sent to the Department of Health.
