Cross Specialty Working Groups

In summer 2008, the Academy established a series of Revalidation cross-specialty working groups to consider a range of issues related to revalidation that were of interest to all of the specialties.

The cross-specialty working groups finished their work and submitted documentation to the GMC in November 2009.

Multi-source feedback and patient feedback

The Academy MSF & PF working group, in collaboration with the GMC, wrote a document containing Principles and Criteria for the use of Multi-Source Feedback, Patient Surveys and Revalidation.

Non-Clinical Work

The Academy Non-Clinical working group developed a series of standards, methods and evidence frameworks for revalidation which cover a range of non-clinical activities regularly undertaken by doctors. These frameworks have specifically focused on: Medical Management; Civil Service and Policy Development; Academic Medicine and Education; Specialty Expertise; and Medical Research. Remediation

The Academy Remediation work group considered the interrelationship between revalidation and remediation. It has completed a final report, Remediation and Revalidation.

The Academy will be ran a working group in 2012 to consider what role the Royal Colleges and Faculties can play in remediation in the future. This project reported in Spetember 2012. icon Remediation Working Group Report.

Clinical Audit

The Academy Clinical Audit Work Group, in collaboration with the Health Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP), has written a document, Clinical Audit and Revalidation, containing Principles and Criteria for the use of Clinical Audit for Revalidation.

Continuing Professional Development

The Academy Directors of CPD Committee have completed a core headings for CPD document which is being used by all Colleges to develop CPD guidance for members and fellows. Work on CPD is being continued through Directors of CPD.

IT and E-portfolio

The Academy has contributed to the DH IT Scoping project which is investigating the use of IT systems in support of revalidation in England. There is also an E-portfolio cohort for a number of Colleges and Faculties. This work is continuing.

Return to Practice

The Academy Return to Practice working group has produced a guidance for doctors returning from a career break. The guidance can be downloaded from the Academy Revalidation Reports and Resources page.
