Academy statement: Infected blood Inquiry

Dr Jeanette Dickson, Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges said:

‘Today’s disturbing report shows beyond any doubt that the infected blood scandal is a tragedy on an unparalleled scale — it should never have been allowed to happen. Patient safety must always come first and everyone should play their part to make sure that’s always the case. We can be confident the blood products we use in healthcare today are completely safe, but we will look at the report’s recommendations and assess what the medical profession needs to do now.’
